    Why You'll Love This Recipe

Apple butter doesn't have to be long or tedious when using a cooking blender. This Recipe for Easy Apple Butter has all the flavor and texture you'd expect from a whole day of cooking.

    Ingredients

Apples: I used Gala apples, but any variety will work fine.

Sugar: A combination of white granulated and dark brown sugar will sweeten this apple butter perfectly.

Spices: The flavor comes from all the warm and cozy fall spices. So get to the spice rack and grab the cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and kosher salt.

Liquids: Not much in this area, just a little pure vanilla extract and maple syrup.

See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    Sliced apples in a blender.

Step 1: Begin by peeling, coring, and slicing the apples.

Once the apples are ready, please place them in a cooking blender, put the lid on, and set it on puree. Depending on the blender, you may pause it several times and stir the apples to ensure they are all pureed. You may also have to add the apple slices in batches.

Apple Butter Seasoning being added to a cooking blender full of pureed apples.

Step 2: As soon as you have all the apples through the first puree cycle, add the remaining ingredients and set it to puree again for about three minutes.

Once the apple butter is done, leave the blender on and keep warm with the lid off to make it thicker if you'd prefer. The other option is to pour the entire pitcher of apple butter into a slow cooker or Instant Pot set it to high, and leave the lid off until you've reached your desired consistency.

    Expert Tips

    • After blending this recipe, I place it all in a slow cooker on high. This allows it to thicken and become more of a traditional apple butter texture as opposed to apple sauce.
    • Be sure that you are adding your apples to the blender in batches. It fills up pretty quickly.
    • You can refrigerate the apple butter for up to four days.

    Recipe FAQs

What is the purpose of apple butter?

Apple butter is most commonly used as a spread for toast and bread. However, it's a great addition to pastries and baked goods, served over pancakes or waffles, and often eaten on its own as a side dish.

What is apple butter made of?

Apple butter is made of fresh apples, spices, and herbs. You'll most commonly find brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Why is it called apple butter?

Apple butter gets its name from the thick, spreadable texture, similar to that of butter. However, apple butter does not contain any butter.

What is the difference between apple butter and applesauce?

Apple butter has a thicker and more creamy texture than applesauce and gets this texture from being cooked much longer than applesauce.

Hi, Yolanda! Thank you so much for reaching out. It sure can. The the fresh apples provide enough acidity with a PH lower than 4.6 so you'll be good to go!
